A Note About This Blog

I used to be a writer. Unpublished, but a writer just the same. I have several 100,000 word novels sitting on my hard drive. Then I fell off a horse and got a concussion that scrambled my brains really good (yes, I was wearing a helmet.) After that forming a written sentence was very difficult for quite some time. It's still difficult, but at least now generally the sentence structure isn't egregiously flawed. Verbally and written wrong words pop in, I switch words around, and sometimes I make no sense at all. It isn't because I don't have knowledge of grammar and punctuation, but my brain simply can't do it sometimes. Reading this blog you're accepting that there's going to be things that look like typos or make no sense. It's not because I don't proofread, it's because my damaged brain doesn't see what's wrong. I try my best, but things will slip through. I don't need them pointed out, I know they're there, but if I continued to worry about them I wouldn't write at all. I didn't for quite some time. It's painful as a past master of words to use them so badly, but fortunately the words don't seem to mind.

Naners and I just continue to get better.

This last weekend we did a clinic with Daniel Stewart. If you ever have an opportunity to clinic with him do it. You will get so much out of it. I certainly did.

We're really starting to work as a team. As I guided her around, thinking heavily of the task at hand, she just did her job. We did rollbacks at a canter and jumped our first fences at a diagonal. She didn't even think of stopping, even when she was faced with obviously new things. I love my horse and I love riding her. What a change from 2 months ago, when I wanted to sell her.

I learned my flat eq is pretty darn good, but oh crud, is my jumping position shitty. Things I was getting away with on Penny Pony just do not work on a big horse. I have the tools now to fix it, just have to work at it. If anyone has been to one of Daniel's clinic I'll just say I parachute and need to remember to googly eye.

We leave in just a few days for Flagstaff. Ride times were posted today. I am super excited. But, I'm damping it down a bit so I'll actually sleep the next few nights.

In other news as I was leaving for Pony Club the other night I found Pinto on the outside of the gate. So, I had to disconnect the opener and chain it shut. So inconvenient, but better than the horses getting out.

Naners and Red wonder why they didn't think to go out the gate.
